There are several theories to explain motivation. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is one of the better known. Abraham Maslow, the psychologist that introduced this concept of hierarchy in 1943, was interested in learning about what makes people happy and the things that they do to achieve that aim. His hierarchy of needs suggests that people are motivated to fulfil basic needs before moving on to other, more advanced needs.
