SAFETY & PROTECTION

In this sub-section, we will provide info about safety and protection (including legal, social, economic, and psychological) from domestic violence, trafficking in human beings, discrimination, or harassment.

We will also address in this sub-section health and financial security.

Although Law 45-XVI has introduced the possibility for victims of domestic violence (DV) in Moldova to request protection orders and emergency barring orders, this did not stop the DV perpetrators to abuse their partners, but also other family members, particularly, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the contrary, according to WHO  (https://www.euro.who.int/en/health-topics/disease-prevention/violence-and-injuries/news/news/2020/6/the-rise-and-rise-of-interpersonal-violence-an-unintended-impact-of-the-covid-19-response-on-families) and Council of Europe (https://www.coe.int/en/web/genderequality/promoting-and-protecting-women-s-rights#{%2263001324%22:[25]}) COVID-19 has disproportionally affected women, including in Eastern Europe, this confirming that violence against women continues to be a widespread human rights concern in Moldova with devastating effects for the security of the victims, wellbeing in the family, and human development.
